For as long as I could remember; music has always been a constant in my life. In some of my worst moments music was what kept things from falling apart. A simple song could make all the wrongs in life feel right.
A young as 6 years old I remember laying across my bed listening to my brother play his albums. Itching for a Scratch by Force MD’s was one song I would rap and dance around the house to
It’s funny how a song could bring you back in time to the exact place you remember first hearing it. If there was ever to be a movie about my life there would be a song playing during some of the good bad and ugly moments.
During stressful days and days I just want to be alone I run to my play lists. Cleaning up is better with music, road trips are full videos with music. I could get lost in a room full of people with music.
Depending on what’s going on in my life I have a play list for it.
Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z, Mia X, Lil Wayne, Pink, Foxy Brown and Lil Kim are my go to. The more explicit the lyrics are the better. I would lock myself in my office/classroom away from the problem of the world and let the music rip through me and sing or rap the lyrics until I’m no longer mad or simply too tired to give a damn.
Nina Simone, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Patti La Belle, Sade, Tina Marie are a few of many others I run to when I need to think things over. My shopping and to do list are done when this play list is played.
This play list can change from time to time but there are a few artists that will remain after the purge. R,Kelly, Beyoncé, Luther Vandross ,Adele and Mary J Blige are a must when things that needed to get done actually gets done. Chill in the music and let it wash all the hustle of the day away.
Now this playlist is endless (seriously it does not end until I turn it off) it’s a combination of other play list shuffled into one. If a camera was placed in my car while I listened to this play list it would catch me singing, dancing, and pouring out all my trial and tribulations. It would not be pretty either
Missing Home (New Orleans)
When I find myself missing New Orleans I play this playlist. It’s also a great workout play list (twerking is work people!). Before anyone asks, Yes we put a beat on any song. Click on the link to listen
New Orleans Bounce Mix (links to YouTube not my personal playlist)
As you can see music is and has always will be a big part of my life. Music is a stress reliever, a counselor and when no one understands and you can quite put it into words, play a few songs and let the music handle it.
How do you get through your good or bad days?
